Hello, my name is Mike Johnson, I am a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT #132140) based out of Los Gatos, California, who is passionate about helping individual adults and couples process their trauma, improve their relationships, and find more motivation for their life. My practice focuses on helping people recognize aspects of their life that are not working, such as managing reoccurring flashbacks, reducing anxious worry, improving communication, and identifying what gets you motivated. My approach is working from an existential and solution focused perspective, or more simply put, finding meaning in your life by focusing on the present-day struggles and figuring out what is going to get out to the future you want for yourself.

As for me the person, well, I joke that I took the long way around to being a therapist. My Bachelor’s degree is in Film and Digital Media, I did a very short stint in medical school, and only years later found my way to being a therapist. New Intentions came from the idea that what I was doing previously was not working for me and I needed to change something to find a life I wanted. So here I am, hoping to help others find the new intention they need to get closer to the life they want.

Experience-wise, I started out working with children as an in-school therapist and then moved on to working at a community mental health clinic where I began working with adults full time. I’ve worked with a various people of different ethnicities, socio-economic backgrounds, gender and sexual identities, as well as all sorts of various mental health conditions. Every person is different, and I’m looking forward to learning what makes you you and how we can help you with what you’re struggling with.
